Nerf Darts Buyer’s Guide
I get a lot of emails asking which replacement darts fit which Nerf guns. Truth be told, it can be a little frustrating to find the right darts, so this is my attempt at a buyer’s guide.
Micro Darts

Micro Darts are the most common type of Nerf darts, as they work with all modern Nerf blasters (except those with a clip system).
Note: While Micro Darts will work in Dart Tag guns, they will not stick to the vests/shields. Get special Dart Tag darts, instead.
Sonic Micro Darts

Like the regular Micro Darts, Sonic Micro Darts are compatible with all modern Nerf blasters. The only difference is that they make a whizzing sound as they fly through the air.
Glow Darts

Glow darts also work in all stock Nerf guns (except those with a clip system).
Clip System Darts

Clip System Darts are designed for use with the Nerf Longshot CS-6, Recon CS-6, and Raider CS-35. They will still work in other Nerf guns as well, but you’d be better off buying other darts if your gun doesn’t use a clip.
Whistler Darts

Whistler Darts can be used in all Nerf guns, except for the guns that use the clip system.
Dart Tag Darts

While the Dart Tag Darts are designed with dart tag guns in mind (such as the Crossfire and Magstrike), they work in all Nerf blasters except the Maverick (tips get jammed) and those with a clip system.

I think I can help with some of the obvious confusion here. The suction-tip darts, glow darts, and sonic/whistlers will work in any stock gun, other than the Clip System guns, that is designed for 1/2 inch foam, which has been almost universal since, I believe, 2003. Dart Tag darts will work in almost all of those guns, except their tips tend to jam in the Maverick. Streamline/Clip System Darts will work in essentially any gun, stock or modified. However, their performance is severely decreased in guns that have longer dart pegs, such as the Magstrike. In general, if you’re looking for a dart for a normal gun, I’d recommend taggers, as they seem to be made of higher-quality foam. Or, if you are a modifier, you could make your own darts, which tend to be cheaper and more effective.
Thanks, OrangeSmith. I updated the info based on your comment — very much appreciated.
did you know that dart tag darts fire farther? I did a range test to find out. They shot about 10 feet further than whistlers or micros
well suction darts and micro darts are the same thing.sonic micro darts and whistler darts are the same thing.and what about the ammo all those vintage nerf guns used?
You mean mega darts i looked at some pictures of them on the internet and their about the same thing as whistler darts
