This allows you to do two things: One, to prime it from the back like a Night Finder, which is easier than the slide. Two, the more important one, is that you can now attach rubber bands or mini-bungees to the back, allowing for a faster air release. And, nerf warrior, if you really were one you would know not to call darts, "bullets". Seriously, a little piece of me dies every time somebody says that, because it stigmatizes those of us who enjoy running around with kids' toys, launching foam at one another.
