Here is my long awaited review of the Nerf Longstrike. Sorry it took me awhile to review this gun — things have been busy!
Longstrike Review
First things first: The Longstrike is hands down one of the coolest looking Nerf guns ever made, and Hasbro will undoubtedly sell a million of these based on appearance alone. We all want a true Nerf sniper rifle, and based on appearances, the Longstrike seems to fit the bill.
As stated on the box, the Longstrike is the longest Nerf blaster. Now, make sure you read this sentence carefully, as it can be a little misleading. It doesn’t have the longest range of any Nerf blaster, it’s just the longest (over 3 feet long). I haven’t measured it exactly, but it only seems to be a couple inches longer than the Longshot.
Unfortunately, the range on the Longstrike is a bit disappointing, especially seeing as it’s modeled after a sniper rifle. Instead of using a direct plunger system like the Longshot, Hasbro has opted to use a reverse plunger system like that found on the Deploy and Raider. Most shots will fall in the 30-35 feet range without the barrel attachment, which isn’t bad, but isn’t great either. Using the barrel attachment seems to have a pretty negative impact on the range.
For those unfamiliar with the internals of Nerf guns, the effect of a reverse plunger system is that the plunger can’t achieve the speed that it can with a direct plunger system. As a result, the plunger doesn’t create as much force, and the darts don’t travel as far as they could with a direct plunger system.
Thankfully, you can see some pretty significant improvements with only a couple basic modifications. Removing the air restrictor will add about 10 feet on average, and replacing the spring will add even more. You’re not going to hit Longshot ranges no matter what you do, but rest assured that you can make some significant improvements with little more than a screwdriver, xacto knife, and hot glue.
To a lot of people, what I just said will be complete gobbledy-gook, and that’s fine. So if you aren’t into modding your Nerf guns, none of this may matter to you, and you may prefer the Longstrike over the Longshot. Afterall, the out of the box ranges don’t vary by a huge amount, and the Longstrike is much lighter and less bulky than the Longshot. It ultimately comes down to a matter of preference.
The Longstrike does feel very sturdy, and it gives the impression that it is a very well made blaster.
Features
As with other recent N-Strike guns, the Longstrike is compatible with the interchangeable parts found in other N-Strike guns.
One cool feature is that the Longstrike can hold 2 additional clips in the shoulder stock (you’ll have to buy these separately), and having two clips at the ready can cut down significantly on reload times while you’re in the heat of battle.
Conclusion
The Longstrike is one of the best looking Nerf guns ever made, but it isn’t one of the best performing. Though some simple modifications can increase the range, it still seems a little silly to create a Nerf gun that resembles a sniper rifle but only shoots a little farther than an out of the box Nite Finder.

Oh sweet merciful gods that looks awesome. It looks (and should be being N-strike) compatible with my raider, which will update my options in any nerf war.
Only Question I have is how long do I need to wait in the UK for it?
The front part is detachable, it has a sight similar to the recon but better. A mix of Recon and Longshot. I have sources. (Toys “R” Us)

Guy-yes it does have extra clip storage. This gun also (presumably) has a detachable barrel.

Now I am going to switch the front part of the two longshots,the reacon,and the Longstrike.I am giddy with excitment.I am also planing on putting the magizine from the raider on the longstrike.

guy, it shoots LESS than 35 feet, it uses a reverse plunger system like the raider and recon, reverse plunger means only one thing, AWFUL ranges, that is the reason i don’t like it, i mean they say it’s a sniper rifle, how can it be a sniper if it shoots only 15-20 feet?

Guy, the raider does have somewhat lackluster range, it’s true, if you have one, compare it to a longshot (which is my standard for a good nerf gun), but at least the raider gets a good 25-30 feet, compared to the awful ranges of the recon, also, i dont think the longstrike is that bad anymore, i just don’t plan on getting it
my improved estimates are around 30-35 feet, actually i mean it does have quite a girth to it’s main section, also, the stock is impossible to take out unless you open up the gun (somebody already has one and proved it), considering it is packaged with the stock seperate, how do you think you insert it, i think you just snap it in

Not trying to be the Devil’s Advocate here, but this gun’s potential is awful when compared to the Longshot. A gun with an inverted plunger will never, I repeat, never, have as much potential as a gun with a direct plunger. People have gotten the Longshot to shoot 100+ feet. I doubt that anyone has gotten the Recon to shoot that far. This gun is pretty much just a Recon that looks lie a sniper. Not a longshot that looks like a sniper. Ask yourself, “What are the most popular and best performing guns out there?” The answer is guns such as the Longshot, the Nitefinder, and the Crossbow. What do all of those guns have in common? A direct plunger. Now, you might be thinking, “But the Maverick is Nerf’s best selling gun.” While this is true, compare the number of Maverick mods to the number of Longshot or Nitefinder mods. Or, if you want even more proof, look at how many Crossbow Mods there are. These numbers prove the popularity of those guns over guns such as the Recon, the Maverck, and more recently, the Longstrike. Now, if you really love the Longstrike’s looks that much, find some way to put the Longshot internals into the Longstrike shell.
The Bottom Line:The Longstrike will never be as good as the Longshot because it has an inverted plunger.
nerf fan i dissigree because the long shot has never i reapeat nerf got to 100 feet thats just a lie but yes this guns range is not verry good i wish they should make a gun thats shoots an averige of like 90 feet some one pointed out earlyer that nerf dosent do that because they don’t want some 6 year old kid shooting there mom from 2 feet away in the eye and getting sewed but i v been shoot in the eye befor from 3 feet away and it hurt a little

Look its not about how you can modify the gun or even its distance. Nerf guns regardless of their ranges or what you can do with them are about having fun. If you can’t even have fun playing in a nerf war with this gun regardless of its distance and whether or not you think it is good, then maybe you shouldn’t be playing in nerf wars. Nerf wars are all about who is the fastest and the best in aiming. I have done so many nerf wars where I have been shot and had a blast doing it. If you call yourselves true nerf fans then just try to have a little fun with this gun. If you don’t like it then use the gun that is your best in a nerf war. Don’t slam a product just because it can’t do everything you want it to do. Try it and if you don’t like then don’t use it. Just keep it as a backup. Sometimes the best sniper is the one who sneaks up on their opponents. I have seen it done many times and those people will use any gun they have. So stop complaining because its not the best. Take it for what it is and make the best out of it.

Jason and the others, Nerfan is right. When he talks about the longshot shooting 100 feet, he means after it is modded. The Modder is right too (though he doesn’t know how to make a good argument). If we compare the longshot and the longstrike based on potential to modify the guns, the longshot wins. If we are just looking at the two guns out of the box, they are about equal but the longstrike looks better so it wins.
So, unless you plan on being super competitive (which I think is lame when we’re talking about nerf guns which are toys) it really doesn’t matter which one you get.

Can’t Nerf invent a gun that we can really love so that we don’t have to mod? I has bruises. I mean big one.
And besides. This is a “UPGRADE!!!” to the longshot which is easier to mod, has better range, and kicks butt!!! I’m talking about the LONGSHOT here! It’s like this. If a real assault rifle shoots 35-40 feet (longshot) than a sniper rifle should at least have a range of 60+ feet (lonstrike) before you mod the gun. Besides, after you heavily mod both guns, longshot and longstrike, the longshot gets a feet of about 140 feet, and the longstrike only gets about 90 feet so it’s over. Admit that the longstrike sucks compared to the longshot.

ok i tried to be nice but your being a b**** so how about you shut up because this gun is just plain beter than the longshot and have you even modded this because if you do it right you can get over 100 feet with a mod but the long shoot can get around the same but without a modd this gun is just better
Now, I’m sorry, but look at some of the mod and ranges on Nerfhaven. People HAVE gotten the longshot to shoot 100+ feet. the Longstrike internals are the same as the Recon’s. NOBODY has ever gotten the Recon to shoot that far. Out of the box, yes. this gun could be better than the Longshot. But stock performance doesn’t matter. It’s al about the capabilities AFTER you mod the gun.

You see, what’s pissing me off isn’t that you think that the Longstrike is better, it’s the fact that you aren’t even TRYING to present evidence. You’re saying that it’s better, but aren’t even saying why. I doubt that you can find enough evidence to convince me that the Longstrike is better than the Longshot, but go ahead and try. I’d love proof that Recons are in fact great guns.

That is our opinion and we have the right to state that opinion just as much as you have the right to state yours. However you are yelling about a toy that you won’t even buy. So when this gun comes out, if you don’t buy one fine. But do not give a review on it until you have actually field tested it. You think it will suck. hey nerffan and jason, i have actually got shot in the eye from 1 feet (by a maverick) while i was having a nerf war with my friend in class. i actually got blind for 3 days. when my eye recovered, my eyesight improved by 20%. how cool is that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I qoute: “shut up because this gun is just plain better than the longshot”. Now I will say, this gun does have just as much, if not more power than the Longshot out of the box. But modification-wise, the Longshot has MUCH more potential. It has a direct plunger instead of an inverted one. The Longstrike’s plunger system is the EXACT SAME as the Recon’s.
