Series: Nerf N Strike

Range: 30-35 feet
Released: 2004

The Nerf Nite Finder EX-3 is a re-release of the original Nerf Nite Finder, and aside from the new yellow and black paint job that matches the rest of theĀ  N-Strike line, the Nite Finder EX-3 is the same fantastic blaster that Nerf warriors have come to know and love.

If you arent familiar with previous incarnations of the Nite Finder, it is widely regarded to be one of the most reliable Nerf guns out there, due largely to its simple mechanics and sturdy construction. Its also one of the easiest Nerf guns to mod, with a simple plunger system and easy-to-work-with materials. As with all guns, some mods are more difficult than others, but removing the air restrictor on the Nite Finder requires nothing more than an exacto knife and some superglue, and it can result in a nice performance increase. An even simpler modification is to wrap rubber bands around the front of the gun, and then loop them through the cocking mechanism.

The Nerf Nite Finder features a laser sight (its really just a red light) that you can calibrate for aiming in dark lighting. Despite the packagings claims that this sight will lead to precision shooting, the laser isnt really accurate beyond 15 feet, as Nerf darts drop rather quickly. I dont mean to say that the light isnt cool it is. Its just that it isnt especially effective. Younger Nerfers especially will probably get a kick out of the laser, but those older than 10 will likely think its pretty worthless.

As far as price goes, you arent going to a better deal than the Nite Finder. Whereas most Nerf guns cost $20 or more, you can find the Nite Finder for closer to $10.

Out of the box, you can expect the Nite Finder to shoot about 35 feet, which is pretty great for a single-shot spring Nerf gun. The accuracy on the Nerf Nite Finder EX-3 is also exceptional, and the weapon can easily be handled by young and old Nerf warriors alike.

I love this gun. Its very well balanced. It is a front loader but it shoots really far just with AR removal. I sawed off the laser and it is like a pocket snipe. I used the vulcan darts and this ranges about 40 ft. I hear with a ace #49 spring, it shoots about 80ft.

Tis is my favorite pistol! Once I knocked my brothers friends tooth out with it! There are clear ones at Target.

must be pretty powerful if it can knock it out

With wistler darts it shoots 40 ft and is incredibly accurate and powerful. My fave secondary (ties with barracade

If this is the best nerf gun, it could use more darts

This is the fourth, and most recent, addition to my nerf arsenal. It is a great gun.

It is not the best looking nerf gun ever made, but it does have a kind of coolness about it.

I have not yet modded this gun, but it fires further than my Raider; with darts flying up to 30ft PTG, and 35+ft at an angle. Its reload time is a bit rubbish (3 secs best) but range makes up for the reload.

The laser sight is, as mentioned above, only accurate up to about 15ft. However, it is cool the way it comes on when you pull the trigger slightly, and is useful for temporarially blinding your opponent. The fact that it can hold darts is a bonus, but it is a shame that it is only three.

Value for money:

For its tiny size, this gun is amazing, and I got it for Ā£9.09 off (p&p included-actual gun is Ā£6.11), and well worth the money.

Pros and Cons:

Easy to use
Looks alright
Great range
Great value for money
Apparently easy to mod

Laser not accurate after around 15ft
Only holds 3 darts

I modded it a couple of days ago, and it took about 15 mins to take out the air restrictor with a dangerously sharp Swiss Army Knife and screwdriver. BEWARE-you need to put padding on the plunger head (ie a 20mm diameter circular anti-slip pad) because otherwise it can make a crack in the bit where you put the dart.
I tested the guns new range on a calm day with no wind, and because of its increased power, the laser is now accurate from 25ft. When fired PTG the darts went about 45ft, and at an angle, they went 60ft+. The reason why I am a bit vague on the angle firing is because one dart was probably going to go about 75ft, but hit a tree so I cant be sure.
Overall, it was well worth the 15 mins of my life that it took to mod it.

This was my first Nerf gun, and all i have to say is, it is a pretty good gun. The laser, is rubbish though. But compared to my other nerf gun (the switch shot) the handle has a nice feel to it. Over all, a excelent pistol

is it normal for your nite finder to be quite a bit more powerful than your raider?

This gun got me back in to nerf.
I had a couple of switchshots and the magstrike from ages ago, then I saw this in a toy shop and had to get it.
It was so good!
I got back into nerf in a big way.

If you see it get it!

j-dog April 10, 2011 at 1:59 pm

if u put some elastic bands around the front part and stretch it back to the cocking mechanism theen it will be firing 65 ft flat, amazing.

Kevin April 11, 2011 at 5:29 pm

I havent seen that much of an increase personally, but youre right that it does make a big difference.

anomanos April 14, 2011 at 3:36 am

the nightfinders good in the dark because of the lasersight.

Jonathan May 15, 2011 at 11:43 am

I got mine for about a dollar at a yardsale. Then I took out the restricter and added a airsoft gun spring inside the factory one, it now shoots upwards of 100 feet.

its under the pistol grip

Dingle berry mcGroagan August 3, 2011 at 3:15 am

In the bottom of the handle, you must take the screw out

HMSer June 18, 2011 at 1:29 pm

My friend recently got this gun, and it works perfectly. However, if you tried the most original one without the tactical rail, you might want that one instead. The new one has a rail, but the sight in the front isnt usable because of it. Sights wouldt work well on a pistol, and there is already a red dot laser built in it.

Linuxrich July 17, 2011 at 1:52 am

My son has one that I had to remove the AR from because it completely stopped firing. Its a great little weapon now, lead me to buy a Mav. The battery compartment is in the pistol grip. Remove the screw in the black cover at the bottom of the grip to change batteries.
